Good afternoon, I have a question about how Ally is measuring contrast in images. I see that Ally is using WCAG 2.2 [https://help.blackboard.com/Ally/Ally_for_LMS/Administrator/Institution_Report/Accessibility_Checklist](https://help.blackboard.com/Ally/Ally_for_LMS/Administrator/Institution_Report/Accessibility_Checklist). I see specifically, this reference on that page The image has contrast issues
- WCAG 2.2 - 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)
- WCAG 2.2 - 1.4.6 Contrast (Enhanced)
- Major issue
I am looking at the standards for WCAG 2.2 1.4.3, and the specific reference is to images of _**text**_ — that has always been a problem, but I have never taken it to mean “images” as is commonly thought of as in Art, Medicine, or my dog’s picture. It’s my personal opinion that contrast for images in text has been construed to mean all images in Ally. I don’t think that’s an accurate interpretation of WCAG 2.2 1.4.3 and WCAG 2.2 1.4.6 —
Can we revisit this please?
Here is the exact reference for the success criterion 1.4.3 (from [https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#contrast-minimum](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#contrast-minimum)) — I interpret this as images of text, not images in the broader sense of the word:
#### **Success Criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)**

(Level AA)
The visual presentation of [text](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-text) and [images of text](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-images-of-text) has a [contrast ratio](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-contrast-ratio) of at least 4.5:1, except for the following:
**Large Text**
[Large-scale](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-large-scale) text and images of large-scale text have a contrast ratio of at least 3:1;
**Incidental**
Text or images of text that are part of an inactive [user interface component](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-user-interface-components), that are [pure decoration](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-pure-decoration), that are not visible to anyone, or that are part of a picture that contains significant other visual content, have no contrast requirement.
**Logotypes**
Text that is part of a logo or brand name has no contrast requirement.
And here it is for 1.4.6
#### **Success Criterion 1.4.6 Contrast (Enhanced)**

[How to Meet Contrast (Enhanced)](https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/#contrast-enhanced)
(Level AAA)
The visual presentation of [text](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-text) and [images of text](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-images-of-text) has a [contrast ratio](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-contrast-ratio) of at least 7:1, except for the following:
**Large Text**
[Large-scale](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/#dfn-large-scale) text and images of large-scale text have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1;
**Incidental**

Thank you so much, everyone, for all the tremendous strides you have been making with Ally; you are really moving the needle forward, and we appreciate you so much. I just really disagree with this latest interpretation, and worth revisiting. Thank you again.
